The Joseph Mellot house combines qualitative requirements with sustainable development day after day. Each of our wines illustrate the richness and diversity of the terroirs from the 8 appellations of the Centre-Loire region, expressing the king grape variety, Sauvignon Blanc, in its upmost true form, not to mention the Pinot Noir vinified for our red and rosé wines.
Each year, we present a selection of vintages in the biggest competitions and tastings. This allows us to better position ourselves with regards to the demands of experts and the expectations of consumers around the world.
Attentive to the results of these local, regional, national or global tastings, we receive these accolades with great emotion, every time we are acknowledged for the work done throughout the year by our teams, in the vineyards and in the cellar.
Gold and Silver at the 2020 Ligers Competition
The renown 1st French regional competition, the Ligers Competition is one of the first events of the year. More than 2,000 wines produced on the banks of the Loire, from Nantes to Clermont-Ferrand, are tasted by juries composed of professionals and enlightened amateurs, chaired by an enologist.
In 2020, the tasting took place on February 2, on the eve of the Loire Wine Show. The Joseph Mellot and Jean-Michel Sorbe estates were distinguished once again: our Quincy Jean-Michel Sorbe 2019 and our Pouilly-Fumé from Domaine des Mariniers 2019 received a gold medal, while our Reuilly Rosé Jean-Michel Sorbe 2019 received a silver medal.
A great recognition at the Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2020
This Japanese competition is getting more recognition every year. For its 7th edition, more than 4,500 wines from 34 countries were tasted by an all-female jury. On February 14th, we had the honor of being widely rewarded: our Pouilly-Fumé Le Troncsec Joseph Mellot 2019 was awarded a double gold medal! The Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Award 2020 also awarded a gold medal to 4 of our white Sancerre wines: the Cuvée Pierre-Etienne 2016, the Grande Cuvée des Edvins 2017, La Chatellenie 2019 and Domaine des Emois 2019. Finally, our white Sancerre L’Original 2016 was awarded a silver medal.
All these accolades are a beautiful recognition, honoring the work of our teams.
In the coming weeks, the Joseph Mellot house will present as usual a selection of its wines at the Concours Général Agricole, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Then come the Sommelier Wine Awards, the Blind Tasted d’Andreas Larsson, the International Wine Challenge, the World Sauvignon Competition… not to mention the publications of acclaimed wine guides as Hachette, Bettane and Desseauve… which often do us the honor of attributing high scores and commending our wines!
