SANCERRE blanc CUVEE PIERRE ETIENNE
Cuvée Prestige

GRAPE VARIETY

Sauvignon blanc.

TERROIR

The grapes for this cuvée were grown on our finest flint-based slopes facing the River Loire.

VINIFICATION

Grapes harvested by hand, sorted and pressed with care. The must is fermented and aged in oak barrels (of which 30% are new) in historic cellars in the heart of Sancerre. An exceptional terroir, wood (barrels) from local forests and the climatic conditions of the cellars begin the alchemy. Fermentation lasts two months; maturing requires another two years of patience. All of this enables the minerality of the terroir to be expressed in harmony with a delicate softness developed through ageing on the lees.

CHARACTERISTICS

This cuvée’s golden appearance is typical of barrel-aged wines. The nose starts off with aromas of citrus fruits (candied orange peel), and is underscored by spicy notes and a light smokiness, finishing with a hint of vanilla due to the wine’s barrel ageing. The palate reveals a similar complexity, giving this wine a delicious fullness and good aromatic length.

WHAT MAKES THIS WINE UNIQUE

This original cuvée was crafted in honour of the founder of the Mellot dynasty, Pierre Etienne (1513) and his descendants. It is only vinified in limited editions (3000 bottles produced). The bottle is a replica of a historical Sancerre bottle. The labels are reproductions of labels from the 1930s.
